[NAGDU] Play Biting

Christina,

If saying pfui is doing the trick, then that's all you need to do. You
may need to work on it for awhile before the dog stops trying to play
bite. But if she desists when you say, pfui, then it's working.

Otherwise, withdrawing your hand or calmly but firmly pushing the dog's
muzzle away works, as well as redirecting to another play activity or
something acceptable to chew. If the dog keeps doing it, you can
withdraw from play, even turn your back on the dog, then go back to
acceptable play.

I hope your friend isn't continuing to encourage play biting in your
guide dog. Yikes! But I sometimes have to remind my husband not to let
Loki get away with the hand-in-mouth game that the two of them like to
play. Sigh. Loki doesn't bite down, just sort of mouths a hand or arm,
but I really don't want a guide that thinks this is a good way to
interact with people who come up to interact with him. Call me picky.

hth,

Tami
