[NAGDU] Vet update

Thanks Alicia. This is good to know. I'll mention it to the vet Friday.
The vet said to keep filling his bowl, to see how much he would drink, but,
when I did, he slurped down almost 4 cups. I think he just keeps eating or
drinking whatever's in front of him until it's gone. This is very much in
tune with his impulsive personality.

Hi Tracy,
My dog, another young male yellow lab from TSE, had this exact same problem.
He was peeing inappropriately indoors when he had plenty of chances to go
out. There was nothing wrong with his bloodwork or urinalysis. My vet had a
theory that his bladder sphincter muscles might not be strong enough to give
him adequate bladder control. She said this is pretty uncommon for young
male dogs, but she thought we should try treating it with medication to see
if he improved. He started taking Proin as a chewable tablet once a day, and
we haven't had any accidents in the several months since then! I am so, so
relieved that we seem to have found a solution that works. Like you, I was
really considering retiring him if I couldn't get the peeing under control.
So it might be worth checking with your vet about giving Proin a try. Hope
this helps!

Alysha

The vet called me with the lab results for the bloodwork and urinalysis she
did for Krokus. Both look fine. His kidneys are concentrating the urine as
they should. Friday, she will draw some urine with a catheter (Poor
Krokus!) to test for a subclinical UTI. If that's negative, I'll talk to the
TSE vets and see if they have any ideas.
Otherwise, all I can think of is stress. My life doesn't seem stressful to
me, but I suppose it might to a dog deciding if this job is for him.
