When I went for my first guide dog I did not have specific routes but
travelled throughout a large city using public transportation on a
regular basis. I was a stay-at-home Mom at the time. I have been
working when I obtained 2 of my dogs. I think the time off is covered
under the family and medical leave act if you are in the U.S. In a
later email you said you are applying for your first guide dog and
looking for a job. I would put one of those on hold while you took
care of the other. If you believe the dog is more important than the
job right now I would put looking for a job on hold so you don't start
your job and immediately ask for time off to get the dog.
