[NAGDU] How do I Know if Peg has a UTI?

Hi Rox.
Is peeing a lot also a symptom of a UTI? Krokus's vet checked for a UTI, when the big blond was needing to go out every couple hours. Didn't find one, but, when he got antibiotics for something else, the excessive peeing problem seemed to get better, too. Beats me.

Hi Dani,
There are several signs of a UTI, you described one, where your dog stops to urinate and produces either little or no urine. You may also find several small spots of urine in your home from accidents that your dog really can't help right now. Some dogs will squat repeatedly, producing small amounts of urine.
Your vet will want a urine sample and if your dog can't produce one he can cathiterize her— a very simple and quick process— and get a sample.
You can give her cranberry extract— found in GNC or Walgreens or health food stores. After the vet gets the sample, he will look at it and prescribe the correct antibiotic. You can also give her probiotics at this time either bought from a health food store or in live-cultured yogurt to help balance out her gut.
I hope Peg feels better soon. I have a retired dog with kidney disease so deal with some of this stuff only from a different end. Learning more about urine than I ever wanted to know. Lol!
