That's a big problem down here in Florida, as well.  At one spot there 
is a huge Bougainvillea vine that hangs over the side walk at face 
level.  The problem with Bougainvillea is that it has razor sharp thorns 
that slash right through the skin.  Palm branches and all sorts of 
bushes grow so fast down here that homeowners have to keep at trimming, 
or their plants grow over the sidewalks quickly.
