[NAGDU] Update on Uber Case in Tennessee

James Alan Boehm secretary at nfb-tn.org
Sun Jun 26 16:58:50 UTC 2016

Dear friends.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our convention this week! I wanted to update you guys on my situation with the Uber driver who left me stranded a couple of months ago. See the story here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYyHQ0-Nr7E <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYyHQ0-Nr7E>
The above story reached n not only the local media outlets in Nashville, but was aired in Memphis, Knoxville, New York, and as far away as san Fransisco! The Rutherford county police, with my persistence and education, have charged the former Uber driver and her hearing is set for August 9th at 8 am. I already have a couple commitments from local television news reporters. We are also beginning to put together a press release. This case will set the tone to all Uber/Lift drivers that if they discriminate and deny a public service to an individual with a service dog, they can be prosecuted by law enforcement. In Tennessee it is a criminal offense-a Class C misdemeanor. I will keep you posted to what happens!
Best,
James and Shep

The school we trained with usually trains at the home of the handler from the start. but other schools divide the training into two parts. However, there is always some time at home to train with the instructor to learn the basic routes.
