I don't think you have to have any visual acuity to keep people from petting your dog. You cannot always feel it, but often you can, and most of them are babbling while they are at it. I grab their hands and remove them from the dog.

I bought and used a flame orange handle attachment from
PatienceandLove143 at Etsy. It is very well done and has a little zippered pocket in back. It is a little difficult to attach to a GDF offset harness handle. It says GUIDE DOG, NO TOUCHING, NO TALKING, NO EYE CONTACT, PLEASE IGNORE. The sign is very noticeable! It is very easy to read. As with others, I have stopped using it. It draws attention to my pup, so that many people notice her who might not otherwise even see her. Since I have some central vision left, I find it is more effective to say, "Please don't," if I see them coming at her, or to yell "NO!" if they have already started interfering with her and to pull her away from them. She is pretty good about ignoring people, but if they actually begin touching her, unfortunately, she responds affectionately. The response that I find most irritating is, "But she likes me."
