[NAGDU] {Spam?} Dog food

We are really careful about dog food. We spend big on it, only organic, and pay attention. Companies buy each other, ingredients change over just weeks on labels, so we have to check them.

We like to avoid canola oil, which is suitable for machinery. In it’s place, there can be other oils, or chicken fat. Always check that.

We use Origen or Acana food now, having just recently seen Castor and Pollocks’ Organics, which used to be great food, sold to a big company. Origin makes Acana. They are the best, cleanest one we’ve found so far currently. Different flavors have different ingredients. I have the store people go over the label with me when I buy. And, I *always* ask them to give feedback to the companies’ reps for any food that isn’t up to par. Most flavors might be fine, but then Canola will surface next week on a label for one flavor we had a few months ago.

It is easy to figure out if your dog is allergic to a food; try a food solo, like chicken, raw. Just chicken. Or beef, or whatever other else like that. No other things to confuse it. That will sort out one mystery quickly. We give the girls raw, and then they can graze 24/7 on the dry. As long as they don’t get fat, we’re ok with that. They are 6 now, and have perfectly regulated weight. That issue, should it ever happen, can be handled by daily portioning food. And proteins generally? We rotate, once every few months. Animals, and us too, are genetically set up to have variation. So varying would be optimal for a good immune system. Unless it is chocolate, which I believe for humans (not dogs of course), is one of the four food groups.

Hope that helps.
Peter
