[NAGDU] tools to clip nails

Yes, let's do explore the statement: *How "even sighted people cut too
short*

To me it says that we shouldn't even try because if the sighted folks
can't even do it, why should we even try? That's the underlying message
to me.

The thing is though, that nail clipping isn't a blindness issue. If your
dog has black nails, most guide dogs do because of the breeds used, then
vision isn't going to do you much good because you can't see the quick
anyway. Nail trimming has to do with confidence, skill and quality
tools. And a dog at least mostly agreeable.

If you can't or don't want to trim your dog's nails yourself, there's no
issue with that. There are vets and groomers available to sighted and
blind people alike. the thing is though, that saying it isn't possible
because of blindness alone is very damaging. To me it feels like we are
lowering expectations of ourselves. Of course not all of us choose to
do everything possible, that's life. I avail myself of all sorts of
services...lawn mowing, washing machine repair, packaged foog...but I
feel that if I wanted to mow my own lawn, fix my own washing machine or
make every meal from scratch, those things are possible for me as a
blind person. I do not have the time or inclination to learn the skills
necessary and that's okay.

Maybe what I'm trying to say is to not let blindness be the excuse. I
think we need to get brave and really real with ourselves. I think it's
okay to make the decision not to cut dog toenails because you are
scared, not confident, can't afford the tools or don't have the time or
desire to learn the needed skills. Where I struggle is saying that
blindness is the factor that prevents you from doing something that you
would otherwise do.

You know, how you can really hurt your dog. How "even sighted people cut too short" (let's explore the subtext of a statement like that another time?).
