hi Janell:

sadly I wrote a great response to you on webmail and Internet Explorer crashed. :(. I'm writing on my by keyboard on my phone so apologize for the odd typos.

you asked about flying with your guide. I flew a lot with my guide dog Bogart. if the flight was over 3 hours then I stop his food about 12 hours before flying and stop his water approximately 6 hours before flying. Bogart was a keen traveller and soon caught on when there were suitcases and dog food and a toy went into them. he was coming. so when we went outside before calling the cab he quickly did his business.

people talked about going through security a bit before. I don't take off any of my dogs hardware. I did learn to take off his harness pouch though since that was what was causing much of the bother from security staff. then I get him to guide me to the scanner. I put him into a sit stay, drop his leash and reach my hand through for the staff person to take and lead me through. I travel a lot so don't usually set off any alarms and then call the dog through. I give him a treat and lots of love for being such a good boy. I usuallytalk to the people at the gate to see fit the flight is full. if it isn't then I inquire about getting an empty seat beside me to give the dog more room. if there is room it usually isn't aproblem. also, since the dog hasn't eaten in awhile, I use a lot of treats for things in the airport that he does well as a reward but to also put a little something in his tummy.

The coolest thing, if I only have carry on, when I come home and flying just with my dog, he was very keen to get us out of the airport and would leave everyone in our dust, take me to the correct escalator and then our the door to the outside world. very cute and useful.

if you. have any questions please feel free to ask.

I have relatives in San Diego so Bogart went there a few times. I don't recall us having any access issues and he came on the beach walks as long as he was in harness with no issues. I didn't go to too many tourists attractions though but I'm sure that would be fine as well.

have a great trip.

Gary
