For those Super Bowl watchers….a fellow guide dog puppy will be in his own
commercial! Commercials, advertisements, and press releases are a great way for all guide dog users to express the hard work, love, and appreciation we have for our dog guide and the school we attended! This could be a great opportunity to begin a dialogue with others in our community! Enjoy the game!

> PALMETTO, Fla. -- The Super Bowl is also the super bowl of commercials but it’s not alone. Leading up to this year’s Puppy Bowl XIII on Animal Planet, watch out for two commercials featuring Southeastern Guide Dogs <https://www.guidedogs.org/> in Palmetto.
>
> The nonprofit agency pairs service dogs, companion and therapy dogs with people living with challenges including visual impairments and veterans with disabilities -- and it does it all for free without government funding.
>
> “Raising a puppy for Southeastern Guide Dogs gives us a chance to make a difference in the lives of other people,” says Ken Folkman at the start of the “Pup Close and Personal” 1-minute commercial.
>
> The Folkman family of Tampa star in this Animal Planet commercial leading up to the Puppy Bowl filmed at their home.

>
>
> “It was a lot of fun. I feel very proud to represent Southeastern,” says Debi Folkman.
>
> Ken, Debi and their kids Jared and Devin are not used to the limelight unless it’s for a cause they love.
>
> Ken says, “We know by doing this Subaru will help this organization and all the work they do.”
>
> The Folkmans are puppy raisers for Suba ---a yellow lab sponsored by Subaru of America, Inc. It’s the family’s second puppy to raise. The first dog was Mastro named after the Tampa Subaru dealer Mastro Subaru. Ken said that Mastro was placed with a Florida veteran.
>
> “Suba is an incredibly loving, intelligent dog. He’s very curious. He wants to learn to become something whatever his career end up being … he’s an incredible dog,” says Ken.
>
> Suba’s abilities will determine if he becomes a guide dog for someone who’s visually impaired, a service dog for a veteran or therapy dog, but the training starts with his puppy raisers.
>
> During his year with the Folkmans, Suba learns house manners, 15 basic commands and is socialized.
>
> After a year the puppy raisers give the dog back to Southeastern Guide Dogs. Yes it’s tough and there are tears but while families like Suba’s love him, someone out there really needs him. Suba heads off to canine college in April.
>
> "I can't even think about it,” says Debi as she holds back tears. She adds, “It’s something that’s hard but you know when you’ve given that dog back that’ll he’ll do amazing things.”
>
> The second Subaru commercial on Animal Planet highlights a visually-impaired veteran Kathy Champion of Gulfport and her guide dog George.
>
> Southeastern Guide Dogs has 120 staff members and 700 volunteers. Click here to donate to Southeastern Guide Dogs. <https://www.guidedogs.org/donate/>
