Note that the research did not determine that ALL dogs prefer praise.
My pup is so totally food driven that she is visibly disappointed when praise is not accompanied by a treat. Her puppy raiser, who has raised and placed 10 pups, said that Claire Rose was the most food driven dog
she had ever raised.
I do not always treat, but praising with a treat is GREATLY appreciated. She feels very special and literally prances after a treat. Her greatest treat is tropical hibiscus flowers, next is tropical hibiscus leaves, then homemade pumpkin or sweet potato treats.
I probably praise more than 90 percent and treat less than 10 percent.
