[NAGDU] Escalators

I have appreciated all the discussion about escalators. I avoid them entirely now, unless I can't figure another way out. My last guide got his outside front toenail (claw?) sheared off on one. It was literally a bloody mess.

My current guide has already had a broken toe--not due to escalators, so no thanks.

And in the not-so-funny category, I got to the top of one escalator in the NYC subway system, went to put my sight cane flat down, and realized that I had only half a cane left! I still don't know exactly what happened to the rest of the cane, due to the noise of the machine. Luckily, no one got hurt. Revolution Canes replaced it--kudos to them!

I also avoid revolving doors like the plague. One of my former colleagues was smacked in the back of the head by one and was never quite the same. Yes, she was fully sighted--until she got in that revolving door.

Best to all,
Karla and Ms D
