Well, Julie Johnson's products seem to come as close as anything to the hands off my dog thing. I just have adjusted to it ... or had.

Good afternoon. What I have found is that pretty much no matter what you do, security at any airport is going to want to take a look at your dog, as well as what the dog is wearing. They have never made me let go of my leash, and here is the way I normally do things.
Stands at scanner.
Puts dog into sit on left side at scanner.
Long leashes dog and keeps dog in sit by scanner.
Walk through scanner while extending my arm and insuring that the leash does not pass through scanner.
When security tells me to, I bring my dog through the scanner, knowing it will alarm no matter what I do.
Next, security takes a briefe look at my dog and I'm on my way.
That seems to be the best way I know how to do it, and sadly I don't know of any way to keep them from fussing with your dog totally. Hope this helps.
