an interesting question that you have brought up.
Not sure with a correct answer can be given, however, myself i would not leave my guide behind, i think there is leads and collets that you can purchase that has no metal clips etc to reduce noise.  I asked about something similar for myself going through metal scanners in airports and i am looking around for such a lead and collar so security or anybody else will not mess with my dog.
