[NAGDU] if you had a magic wand

I believe that Jen knows that finding a vet is like finding a doctor for
herself or the kids. I personally hate doing that. But here's the deal. She
has written and says she is just thinking about these things, she's not sure
if she's getting a dog yet, and I think when someone expresses these
concerns we need to not be condescending to them. I never thought I wanted a
dog, not ever. When I decided I would probably like to get one, I think some
of these questions sounded a little silly to me when I had them, and I
appreciate someone's ability to put them out there. I was married to a dog
handler so I could just ask him all of the questions. If we have enjoyed
using a cane, then we can be conflicted about switching, and sometimes we
have friends who say snarky things like, "Why would you want to get a dog."
I learned early on to take my dog for a well visit to the vet just so she
could get to know that doctor before such time as she might be ill. No one
had suggested it to me. Now it seems second nature to me. Seems we all have
to learn and be able to freely express the curiosity to do it.

Heather gave you some great pointers
on setting alarms and the like.
As for a vet, it's like finding a doctor for yourself, or your kids or your
husband.

Hi guys,

As I said in my introductory post, I'm not a guide dog user. But I would
love to contribute to this post!

My biggest worries, if I was to get a guide dog, center around my role with
him or her.

1. I'm worried I would always forget to let my dog out!!!
2. I'm worried I couldn't find the right vet.

So if I had a magic wand, it would magically let my dog out at the right
time so I wouldn't have to worry about remembering! Also all vets would be
willing to work with a guide dog.

What is the biggest pain about working with a guide dog or, if you don't
have a dog yet, what is your biggest worry about getting and working a guide
dog and, if you had a magic wand and could make that problem go away, what
exactly would the magic wand do to make the problem go away?

Just procrastinating anything productive and trying to have a little fun on
a Saturday morning!
