[NAGDU] how fetching.

Becky:

I am glad to hear that I don't have the only golden retriever that will not
retrieve. Eva lets me throw a toy for her and she will run to get it then
roll around on the floor with the toy in her mouth. My last dog Tara would
occasionally go get a toy I had thrown but most of the time she just let it
stay where it landed. Cinnamon, who I had before Tara, would play ball all
day every day. She loved running to get the ball and would always
immediately bring it back to me to throw again. She was a tiny little
golden but could put three tennis balls in her mouth at once.

Cindy, that is how my goldens are. Throw things three or four times and they
lay down and occupy themselves. I think it is just a golden thing, smile.
Not that there aren't golden who will play and play then drop over in
exhaustion, now. But normally my goldens have been short players, all three.

Warm smile,
Becky who loves her goldens

My golden retriever would fetch about three or four times, and then the game
was up. He would either say, "You threw it; get it yourself." Or "It's my
turn to play with it so forget it."

Dan, I heard the Seeing Eye taught fetching for years but many of the
trainers found the physical demands of teaching fetch too taxing. It could
also be that it took time away from training other things as Cindy said.

Ironically, all three of my dogs, while retrievers don't like to do a
traditional fetch. Paige loves getting her Kong when I throw it, but
getting her to give it back is still an iffy proposition.
