Hi all, 

As to finding things, it really depends on the dog. Some are good with words, others relie more on patterns. As for needing practice, I guess that applies to all commands and also to working in different surroundings. 

With retrievers being the friendly dogs they are they sometimes find chairs that are not empty. You could try giving a special food reward when your dog finds an empty chair, first all the time and then randomly.
