Hi Tracy and List,
I do understand why it would bug you that people would focus more on videoing and not on the dog and building a relationship. However, that's not at all my intention; I like to journal about important things to me, not for everyone else but for me to look back on, and that is why I also mentioned audio-only recording; and, you are absolutely right, that first meeting is so very special, that's why I want to capture it. I haven't done that with the last 3 dogs, but I would like to with this one, and I can hit the record button, forget about the fact that it's being recorded, and still be very, very mindful and special with the dog at the same time. For some, it is a distraction, but for me, it's a way for me to go back and look at how amazing that moment was and actually hear it happening. I have always recorded special moments throughout my life, since a very young age, and it's actually therapeutic for me and comes as second nature to me since it's been a part of what I do for a very long time. It may sound like I'm trying to justify it, but my intent isn't to do that, but just to explain my position on it and assure you that I will still have that very special moment and it won't take away from it at all. But I can see where different things work for different people.
Getting more excited as the time goes by.
