[NAGDU] o and m programs in guide dog schools

I would point out one thing about all the guide dog schools "offering O&M programs". None of these program are long and thus they will not teach all the nuances of cane travel and good orientation. They will help, but they do NOT take the place of any good Orient and adjustment program such as the ones at the three NFB centers. Yes, I realize some may not wish to nor have the time to go to a good residential program, but the programs offered by the guide dog schools do not take the place of such programs and they will not provide the same level of confidence as more detailed programs.
The program offered by GDB works with the Earle Baum Center for the blind and the San Francisco Lighthouse for the blind. Definitely anyone interested in any of the guide dog school O&M programs should contact all the schools and find out exactly what is offered and provided.
Best Regards,
Michael Hingson

Andrew, Why don't you get in touch with Pilot and learn from them firsthand what they would expect. My guess would be that it would be good to talk to each of the schools mentioned on the list by phone to see what their O&M Programs entail. Obviously this is up to you, but in the end you would likely have to call them anyway, or at the very least write to them.
