[NAGDU] Home alone

Most of my dogs had no problem staying alone, and were nearly perfectly
behaved.
I say "nearly" b/c with my Rhoda, I would put my hand on the couch when I
returned, and it was inevitably warm. (smile) When I was home, she *never*
got up on the furniture. I would just smile. Not much I could do about it,
unless I wanted to put a kitchen chair on top of the couch.

My Liza, however, was a different story. Staying alone made her nervous,
and she would chew on whatever she could find. So, she always stayed in her
crate while I was gone, and was never unhappy about it that I could observe.

If I knew I would be gone for an extended period of time, like four hours, I
would tell a neighbor. Otherwise, I didn't bother.
I use the ICE (in case of emergency) file on my phone and on my desktop to
give information about my dog's vet as well as my own contacts. Now that
you mention it, Tracy, it wouldn't hurt to make a list of people willing to
care for my dog in case of an emergency.

Hope everybody enjoys their new year celebration.

Susan

Hi there, these are very valid concerns. A lot of it depends on how
often you have left your dog home alone. It also depends on whether your
dog can be trusted to be home by himself if he is not tide down or in a
crate. For example, my dog is great by himself but he has not always
proven to be trustworthy. therefore when I leave him home alone, and
sometimes it is up to 4 hours, I will put him in his crate and he is
fine with that. I typically don't tell my neighbors unless the situation
warrants it. Good luck.
