Sandra, yes it is only thin windbreaker material, nylon on outside, coated on the inside. It is thin which in this case is good because it does a very adequate job with the rain, but will completely conform to body contour under harness. -Peter

Its nice in a cold rain to give her a simple windbreaker poncho on occasion, when a jacket wasn?t necessary just to get the rain off her to keep her comfortable. There are many brands of rain poncho out there. This one folds up to the size of a fist, and works well and I really like it. About twelve bucks. On amazon here is the link:

But being a sighthound, she?s only six inches wide at the shoulder. We use an extra large. If she had the girth of a normal dog, this might be a poncho for a shepard, or perhaps a black or golden. I have to put a few stitches and relocate a little bit of velcro to adjust it down for her narrowness, then it works. But that?s only a few stitches, about ten minutes of work. I have one of these in each of my packs, and hardly notice it.

I have the Ruffwear Aira which is no longer manufactured for Thai, and the Ruffwear SunShower for Jackie. Both are waterproof, full coverage jackets that are lightweight. I typically leave the jacket on the dog in public so I don?t need to carry a wet jacket, but the do fold up pretty small if desired. Cleaning mud and salt out of feathering is definitely not fun. Some type of rain gear is totally worth it IMO.
