Dear All,

I had the distinct honor of training with John Byfield. John
has been a guide dog trainer for 62 years, creating some very innovative
programs both in the U.K. and in the United States. Merry and I were the
first consumers to learn of his retirement during a breakfast prior to a
training session with the Freedom pup my wife raised. John estimates he has
trained more than 1500 guide dog teams during his career! At 82 years of
age, he knows it is time to retire but he's not sure what he will do! My
wife and I have been urging him to write a book. We know he has a lot of
great stories to tell and wisdom to impart!

The National association of guide Dog Users will be honoring
his career and commitment to the blind community and the guide dog movement
during our annual seminar and meeting on July 14. More about this will
follow very soon!

Fraternaly yours,

Marion

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise
expectations because low expectations create barriers between blind people
and our dreams. You can live the life you want! Blindness is not what holds
you back.
