[NAGDU] GPS app

I think Tracy makes good points here about the good aspects and the problems with GPS. I must say I purchased and really did not like Nearby Explorer when I lived in Chicago because it didn't have any of the transit information it claimed to have but my experience is just one and I haven't used it recently. My go-to is Blind Square as well and I also like Soundscape because you can set markers for destinations and bonus, it's free. If you're going to work with a GPS, it's good to get acquainted with it and learn how to use it when you're not also trying to learn to work with a dog. The balance between using a GPs effectively while working your dog and still being attentive enough to your dog is tricky sometimes.

I usually use APH's Nearby Explorer, but I've also used Blind Square. They both work similarly.
The thing to keep in mind with GPS is that, though they're good for telling me where I am, except in New York City, but they don't tell me much about walking conditions, if I try to use one to plan a route. They don't know if there's a sidewalk or not. And I've had them more than once tell me to cross a busy street where there was no traffic light. Fine if you're driving, not good for a blind pedestrian. The maps seem to never be updated as to points of interest as well. Mine tell me about places I know have been closed for years.
But, if all I want to know is what street I'm on, what street is coming up, and which direction I'm going, they're quite helpful.
Tracy
