[NAGDU] Guide dog schools and puppy raisers

I'm inclined to agree with you.
If it helps any, my family and I adopted a puppy at ten weeks old. I was and
still am his prime caretaker. I also had a toddler at the time.
We put a bell on the puppy so all of us could hear anything he did. If the
bell "didn't sound right" I'd go investigate.

I'd want the schools to outline what exactly they think requires vision.
As an aside, my kid (the previously mentioned toddler's big sister) says
that a blind person would be perfect to raise a puppy where the goal is to
guide a blind person. She says the schools are adding an unnecesairy step by
expecting the dog to "get used to a blind person" when a blind person can be
just part of their experience.. there wouldn't be a need for an adjustment
period or anything special about a blind person.

Subject: [NAGDU] Guide dog schools and puppy raisers

The Ohio Association of Guide Dog Users had a long time puppy raiser talk to
us about raising puppies for a school. We asked if a blind person could be a
puppy raiser and she said one woman who was legally blind did it but there
is so much that requires vision that she did not believe a blind person
could be a puppy raiser. A blind friend is also interested in becoming a
puppy raiser so she attended a meeting at another school and the same thing
was said at that meeting. I am concerned schools are discriminating against
blind people being puppy raisers and I would like to get information from
the different schools and have NAGDU work to change their attitudes.
