>From what I understand, these days, guide dog users are encouraged to use canes for various reasons while they're using their dogs. And, we've always been encouraged to use a cane periodically just to keep our skills up. The more tools you've got in the box the better off you are. This question reminded me of Heather's article in the Monitor recently about this whole topic of canes and dogs. I don't know what National does with the information, but I think in the future it would be something to pay attention to and encourage dog users to be cane users as well, just in a little different way maybe. I know when I've had dogs, I've not been good about using my cane periodically, but if and when I can get myself in a position to get a dog again, this will be something I take more seriously.

Well, I think one of the reasons for asking the question might be that they can direct information to you concerning divisions that could be of interest, such as NAGDU. I’m not sure of that, but that could be part of the situation.
