As a disclaimer, I am writing this as a member of MAGDU, not because of any association with On The Go Dog Gear. With that out of the way, here is the information. The Missouri Association of Guide Dog Users, a proud division of the National Federation of the Blind of Missouri, is hosting a fundraiser during the entire month of October and cordially invites you to participate. The Missouri Association of Guide Dog Users, (MAGDU), is teaming up with ON The Go Dog Gear to have an event which will assist MAGDU in continuing its work with guide dog handlers across the state of Missouri. . On The Go Dog Gear is most noteable for the sport style guide dog harness, but they have a wide array of products for guide dog teams and dog lovers overall. Some of these products include collars and leashes in a variety of materials and styles, portable bowls, rollup dog beds, collar bells, harness pouches, dog themed human jewelry, and much more. To place an order with On The Go Dog Gear, please email them at onthegodoggear at gmail.com or call them at (402) 603-0811. You may also visit their online store at http://www.shop-onthego.com . Anyone who places an order with ON The Go and indicates participation in the fundraiser will get 10% of the proceeds from their entire order donated to MAGDU. If ordering online, there is a textbox right before the place order button that says notes for special processing. In that box, please let On The Go know you are taking part in this special event by writing MAGDU2022 or something sinilar. If you are placing your order by call or email, please inform customer service that you wish to participate in the fundraiser. Please remember you must let On The Go know you are doing the fundraiser so the proceeds are donated accordingly. Thank you for your continued support of the Missouri Association of Guide Dog Users. The New York Association Of Guide Dog Users will be presenting a seminar, virtually, at the National Federation Of The Blind of New York State's Annual Convention. This year, the convention will be presented in a hybrid format. As such, many of its groups and divisions, including the New York Association Of Guide Dog Users will be holding its seminar using the Zoom platform. The seminar will take place from 6 PM until 8 PM, followed by our business meeting from 8 PM until 9 PM, Eastern Standard Time. Let?s get ready to engage in some myth busting, Guide Dog Edition. We will be exploring a range of topics, from the ludicrous and therefore humorous, to the informative and educational, through the lens of common misconceptions, misunderstandings, and myths that have sprung up surrounding guide and service dogs and their handlers. The seminar will be presented in an interactive format, and will be informative not only to first time and prospective guide dog handlers, but will provide useful information to seasoned guide dog handlers, plus, an opportunity to engage in discussion. So, please join us on Zoom, and bring along a few myths of your own. If we don?t address them in our main presentation, you can bring them up at the end for general discussion. Yes, there will be door prizes, and yes, some of them may be T-shirts, and some of them may be other fun items. Please feel free to stay with us after the seminar for our business meeting, where we will discuss the launch of our People+Paws+Pages Guide Dog book club with it?s first selection in November, the upcoming reprint of last year?s T-shirts, upon popular request, and various other projects and endeavors. The book I stumbled across that I liked is called forward together. It is on bard and the number is db100008 It was written by an instructor who worked at leader, seeing eye and I believe geb. It was written in 2017 and lots has happened since then but of the books I've tried reading I thought that this was by far the best. Once again just my two cents. It's very detailed. The author used to work for many years at the Leader school in Michigan and her husband now works for Guide Dogs for the Blind in California. It might have more detailed than you want, but as someone who worked for 50 years teaching deaf babies and their parents later blind adults and then after I retired deciding if I wanted to apply for a dog after using a cane for decades, I loved it. I recognized many of the teaching techniques that we used with young children during hearing testing. I also thought the book Thunderdog, also on BARD, was great. I put off reading it for years because I assumed it was mostly about 9-11, but it actually was mostly about the author, Michael Hingson's life and his dogs.
