Hi, Sam.

I don't know that I have any good advice to share, but I with you the
best.  I've heard good things about Leader Dogs.

Surprisingly for me, when I got my first dog in 1979, I felt excited and
not very nervous.  I'd decided in May of 1978 that I wanted a guide dog,
and nothing between that moment and when I went to the school caused me
to question the choice.  I was more nervous in later classes:  at least
some of us develop a few bad habits with one dog that we need to reform
in the class for the next one.  All you can do is your best, and I think
the bond you develop with the dog will take the edge off the frustrating
moments at least some of the time.

I’m mostly excited, but I’m also a little nervous and there is a part of me that is questioning my decision. I assume that these feelings are all normal, but for you experienced guide dog handlers, I wanted to ask how you overcame all those feelings and emotions and if you had any advice for me.
