Madison,

You don’t need to exclude guide dog programs if they’ve a line of German Shepherd Dogs as guide dogs. As a guide dog user-to-be you can tell them which breeds you want to work with as your future guide dog. I’ve friends who got German Shepherd Dogs as their first guide dogs because they wished it, I was told when I applied for my first guide dog that I could be matched with a German Shepherd Dog if I wished it but I told them that I’m a Retriever lady, so, I got a Labrador Retriever from a field line. It’s really good that you’re honest with yourself which kind of dog you want in your life and tell the guide dog programs that, I understand that it’s hard but you can think of the qualities which you appreciate in dogs around you. As an example, I wished for a small Labrador girl who was quirky, humorous, and energetic and that was what I got and my wishes are the same today.

Kind regards,
