[NAGDU] choosing schools

Hi, Madison.

I'm a picky eater too, which I've tried and failed to change. During my
five visits to Seeing Eye, sometimes I had full meals, sometimes only odds
and ends when I didn't like the meal, and sometimes I supplemented my table
scraps with stuff from shopping trips that volunteers did for us. I had no
arrangement to accommodate my weirdness, but sometimes got cheese or some
other small extra if it was at hand. I don't know what any other schools do
about such things.

Concerning weather, all of my dogs have worked in seasons when they didn't
get their training, except my current dog ma have had some training in all
of them. Orin was trained pretty much in the spring and early summer, but
had to work for real in deep snow and on ice much of our time together. I
got Bessie as hot late spring was heading into hot summer, and I don't know
how much harsh winter she was trained in, yet she was really goot in the
variable winters here from 2006 to 2016. I'd guess that several schools
work in most kinds of weather. Somebody can correct me, of course, but I'd
guess that most well-trained guide dogs can adapt to new weather if given
the chance and some loving patience.

Best!
Al

Subject: [NAGDU] choosing schools

Hi all,
I know I haven't started applying and I don't know when I will but I'm going
to ask these questions anyway. I'm a very picky eater and it's not because
of religion/allergies/diatary restrictions it's just the way I am; I know
that schools have to accommodate it if you have a specific reason but since
it's just the way I am would they still have to accommodate me/do you think
they'd be willing to do so? Also, would it be wrong/weird to pick a school
based on what the weather tends to be like (I don't mean during training I
mean what type of weather the dog was trained in)? Our winters get really
cold and we tend to get lots of snow and while I get that no one likes going
out in the freezing cold and snow I would want to know that I'd be getting a
dog that can handle that type of conditions just the same as I'd think
someone who lives somewhere that gets a lot of rain/storms would want to
know that their dog would be able to handle it. Look forward to reading any
thoughts that anyone has!! Thanks Madison
