[NAGDU] Hypoallergenic dog guide, where can I get one?

Hi Tara –

My name is Diane. I’ve been working my fourth Guide dog, Jaxi, who is a standard poodle for more than 10 years now.  Being she is of an age that it was time to consider a successor dog for her. I found out the school. I got her from no longer has standard poodles to offer. However, they recommended me to Guide Dogs Of The Desert. Guide Dogs Of The Desert is a school near Palm Springs California. It is a small school with about a year and a half waitlist. This weight is not surprising, considering they shut down in the heat of the summer you couldn’t train with a guide and it wouldn’t be fair to the dog to work in the heat of the summer.

I applied and was accepted to Guide Dogs Of The Desert and I am looking forward to getting a successor Guide that is a standard poodle. I do not have dog allergies. I simply wanted a poodle for my fourth Guide dog and Jaxi is so amazing that I wanted my successor dog to also be a Poodle.

Best wishes! You will absolutely love having a poodle. They are extremely intelligent. You have to make sure you’re smarter than the dog because they might push the envelope a bunch but with the experience you’ve had I’m sure you’re gonna work out just fine with a Poodle.

The blood work tested for various allergies and I was confirmed in my understanding that my child has scored high on being allergic to dogs. Currently, I am working with an eight-year-old black lab from the Seeing Eye. Have any of you experienced anything like this and what did you do? Are there schools that train poodles or the poodle mixed breeds? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
