Do you use the nail grinder on the underside of the nail or the top side?

So there is the base part of the nail, which is way back near what would be a cuticle on a person. Then it sort of drops off and the shape changes from round to a concave curve that reaches the tip. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, I don't do anything back nervous the base of the nail, but I don't rmember ever having a dog with any sharp or pointy bits in that area. I sort of roll the grinder from the bottom of the tip around the end to the top of the tip of the nail. If that makes the edges not as smooth as I like I might do a swipe sideways to make the tip round again. I probably never go further than a quarter inch back from the very tip of the nail.
