I consider myself to be very lucky, my golden is very good with the come command. he keeps his eye on me at all times. Even when he’s not looking directly at me. I do believe that is a characteristic of goldens, they are clingy! But loyal. I have never heard of the here command. And I was at the seeing Eye in April2019. We used come touch. I also had a trainer come out to see how it was going, just a visit because they were in the area. And I had to repeat something that I taught my dog to do three times for her. I marked a spot random in a parking lot on the curb for my daughter’s bus stop. Each day when I got near I would say find that spot and he would go to the same place every day. The trainer thought that was pretty cool. I marked it by having my dog sit and tapping my foot on the curb. then lots of praise.
Best regards

Whe When we are first introduced to it in class, it is done on a long leash, and with treats available that we hide in our fist. However, as a dog becomes more solid with the command with us (they already know it with their instructors), we gradually reduce the treats. The goal is also to increase the distance between yourself and your dog.

He comes running, touches me with his nose to let me know that he's right there, and then he bounces off into another part of the yard. Technically, he should stay put once he's made contact with my hand. But I am satisfied with the fact that he has made contact with me. I also make sure that he is wearing a bell or two or three on his collar so I can hear him in the yard. In spite of the fact that he is a shepherd, he is food motivated. So if I did need to strengthen the hair command at sometime in the future, he would respond successfully with treats. What I don't know is when The Seeing Eye began to use the heater command. When I trained with Fiona in 2013, that command was not being used. I like the fact that there is a difference between the come command and the hear command. In some respects, I think the dogs begin to ignore the come command because they hear it so much. That may differ from dog to dog, but they do have the ability to incorporate selective hearing. Whereas, the here command is used in frequently enough that it remains fairly novel to the dog.
