Hi:
Please bear with me. First I will say I feel for you folks. I can't
imagine the stress of knowing whether or not you will be passed by
when you call Uber or Lyft. You have the law and common decency on your side.
I am not trying to excuse the behavior of the companies, they are
clearly in the wrong ... but I wanted to mention one thing to keep in mind.
In the 1980's I managed the Radio Reading Service in Chicago. One of
our volunteers was in charge of training all United Airlines flight
attendants. I believe they had 10,000 or more at the time. As you
will remember we were having problems with Airlines then, where blind
people sat etc. She and I talked about it and I knew she fully
understood our position and supported it. However, she said one thing to me:
The hardest thing is to train all 10,000 people the same and to get
them all to act the same!
As I said, this is not an excuse, but Uber and Lyft have even more
drivers, all the training is on-line, and the drivers are
contractors, not employees. So unfortunately, this may always be an
uphill battle.
Good luck!
Dave
