[NAGDU] leading your dog on the opposite side

Hi Josh and all. I had a fully torn rotator cuff and the surgery and rehab
that went with it several years ago. I had my guide re-trained to work on
the right side for those 3or 4 months. It can be done, but it takes a lot
of practice and patience on both the handler's and the dog's part. The
handler needs to reverse the foot he leads with, and, at least for me, my
balance was somewhat impacted. It also means that the dog needs to look
more to his/her left to protect the handler. As I said, it can be done but
takes some work for both dog and handler.
God bless!

Subject: [NAGDU] leading your dog on the opposite side

hi,
Just out of curiosity, I know that traditionally when walking with a guide
dog the dog is on your left and you hold the harness with your left hand
leaving your right hand free? But are there times when you may have to go on
the opposite side and have your dog briefly guide you as the dog is on your
right, instead of left, or the opposite side?

Josh
