[NAGDU] leading your dog on the opposite side

Hi Josh,
I used a cane for decades, but now I have a 3 year old guide dog who I trained with a year and a half ago. In your situation, looking for your parents driveway on the right side of the road, I would just walk on the right side of the sidewalk-less road. Guide dogs should be trained to walk on both sides of roads where there are no sidewalks. In fact, I often walk on the right side as there are many sidewalk-less roads near where I live.If I stay on the left, I miss my turn off!
Plus I think guide dogs should also be trained to for cars whose engines are on and who may be backing up, such as when you walk behind them in parking lots, when crossing driveways, etc.
But anyway, Igot my dog from GDB and they teach dogs to walk on both sides of sidewalk-less roads, which has been really helpful to me.
Good luck
Debbie

I was just thinking that: what if you are training your dog to find something that is on your left when walking down a road with no sidewalks.
Example: my parents driveway to their house is along a road with no sidewalks. And I walk on the left side of the road, and then I find the driveway with my cane. The house is at the bottom of a mountain with woods on either side. So if I were to train a guide dog, horse, whatever you have, to find that driveway, would it not be beneficial to switch sides with your dog to train them to find that driveway? Of course maybe I am completely wrong here. I won't have a guide animal for a year, maybe two.
But training a dog or mini horse to find a driveway should be a similar process. I like to think about stuff ahead of time and sort of plan out how I will accomplish certain training tasks.
