Julie Johnson wrote a book about training her own guide dogs. If I recall
right, it's called Dare to Dream. It's available on Amazon. Not sure if
it's on NLS or Bookshare.
There is also a list for owner-trainers. I'm not on it, so I don't know how
to subscribe, but others here are. Hopefully one of them will speak up.

Subject: [NAGDU] Owner training your own guide-dog
Hi everyone, I am interested in the subject of training your own guide-dog.
How does one go about this, as obviously I can't get a guide-dog through our
schools because I don't have the Mobility roots and I feel that an
assistance dog would benefit me, but it would be good to be able to do owner
training for the dog to do some guiding tasks.
I have a certified trainer who is helping me with this, but would like to
know techniques of how to do the guiding stuff safely. Also, where would I
be able to obtain a harness that has an offset handle for the times that I
am in my wheelchair?
