<p>As many of you may have already read in the news, there is an atypical respiratory illness spreading in dogs in the United States. The Seeing Eye's veterinary team has been tracking reports closely. Original reports started coming out of Oregon in late summer. Suspected cases have now been identified in Oregon, Colorado, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California, Indiana, Illinois, Washington, Idaho, Georgia, and Florida.</p>
<p>We will be increasing our surveillance on campus and in our Puppy Development program, running increased numbers of respiratory PCR panels. These PCR tests have been largely coming up negative on the suspected cases but will allow us to identify known pathogens. We will also be taking additional precautions with new respiratory infections on campus.</p>
<p>We would also like to know about all cases affecting Seeing Eye working dogs in the field. Please notify The Seeing Eye should your Seeing Eye dog develop respiratory illness, so we are aware of all cases.</p>
<p>Recommendations:</p>
<ul>
<li>Avoid areas where dogs (outside of the organization) congregate such as dog parks, boarding facilities, groomers, etc.</li>
<li>Seek veterinary attention quickly should your guide develop signs of respiratory illness such as coughing, sneezing, or nasal discharge.</li>
</ul>
