[Nationalharbor] FW: Summer Youth Employment

For the third year Maryland Community Connection will be providing the Summer Youth Employment Program for people with disabilities. This program is fully sponsored by the Maryland Division of Rehabilitative Services (DORS) and is offered to individuals with disabilities living in Prince George’s County.  If you or a loved one is interested in the program, please contact your DORS Counselor as soon as possible because the program will begin in June 2014. All referrals come directly through your DORS counselor and not MCC.  MCC will be interviewing students aged 15-20 years old in April 2014 so do not delay. Individuals that will be turning 21 years old soon  and will be receiving Day Services through DDA for FY15 will not be eligible for this program. Maryland Community Connection’s Summer Youth Employment Program entry is very competitive and there are only 20 available slots.  

 

The Summer Youth Employment Program is an opportunity for youth with disabilities, who are able to be independently placed in a jobsite in the community, to work 20-30 hours per week for 6 weeks and earn $7.25 per hour.  Each student also participates in a great learning experience of Job Readiness Training Classes and a Professional Shopping Trip.  This is a great chance for individuals with disabilities to gain valuable work experience in the community, and in past years, we have had individuals whose employer opted to hire them permanently!
