Fellow Federationists:

 

A group of students at the University of Maryland at College Park are currently developing a new device which has the potential to significantly help blind students better understand the graphics and figures used in our math and science classes. Although this study has been in progress for some time now and these students have made a number of presentations at NFB events in order to gain participants for their research, they are now nearing their deadline and will soon need to collect and analyze data on their final product. Therefore, I am asking all who are interested and who live in the MD/DC/VA area to read the below solicitation and consider participating in this research as a blind tester. As they near completion on this important project, let’s show our appreciation to these students for their willingness to learn from our organization throughout this process. Here is their advertisement:

 

"Earn $40 by participating in a short research study. University of Maryland students are developing a new touch screen aimed to help mathematics students learn math. This new touch screen technology allows users to FEEL images on a 2D surface. If you would like to help with this research study, please contact team-haptic at umd.edu for more information."
