Hello All,
We need letters for the raising the blind exemption on property tax bill
(HB910). This will raise the exemption from $15,000 to $40,000. You should
say something like: "The exemption has not been raised in 25 years. If it
is to be meaningful, it should be raised now. Property values have gone up
since 2000." I will tell you the Senate version of the bill next week. You
should email the delegates or call them. The number is 410-841, plus the
extension.
You must also write support for HB1097. This bill will establish a workgroup
on mail-in ballot accessibility. You can say something like this: "The
workgroup is made up of all the players involved in this problem. The
disabled including NFBMD, Common Cause and the League of Women Voters,
experts on security and accessibility, and government officials. This group
must give its recommendations to the governor and the general assembly by
December 2025. It is time to solve the problem of electronic ballot return.
You can receive your ballot on the computer and fill it out on the

The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is
not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise
the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
