Presentation on applying for and using a guide dog in everyday life:  Abby Lanier

Ms Lanier’s presentation covered the following:

  1..  Choosing a guide dog school. 
  2.. The application process.  
  3.. Actual training at the school.  
  4.. Obedience training for the guide dog.   
  5.. Finding landmarks using a dog vs. a white cane.   
  6.. Grooming of the dog.  
  7.. Financial obligations.  
  8..  Where and where not to take a guide dog and why.    
  9.. State laws governing the use of a guide dog.  
  10.. What to do when people want to pet your guide dog.  
  11..  Weather considerations such as heat, cold, ice, snow, salt used for de-icing.    
  12.. Foreign travel with a guide dog.    
The next meeting will be August 9, 2010, at 9:30 p.m.
