                                  North Carolina Association of Blind=d Students

                                    Monthly Conference call – October 11, 2011

Members present:  Brice Smith, Justin Salisbury, Heather Locklear, Gary Ray, Dasha Radford, Mike Cox, Jewel Shuping, Cindy Bennett, Sharon Newton, Preston Johnson, Sean Mealin, and Veronica Puentes

The meeting was convened at 9:30 p.m.

Committee appointments:  Justin Salisbury

  1..  Fundraising Committee:  Preston Johnson covered details of the Krispy Kreme fundraiser.    He also mentioned that Whole Foods is willing to donate some free food for the student seminar.   
  2..  Membership Committee:  This committee needs to contact all DSB and DSS offices to inform them of the upcoming student seminar.    Jewel Shuping was appointed chairperson of this committee.
  3..  Legislative and Advocacy Committee:  Sharon Newton was appointed chairperson of this committee.  
Treasurer’s report:  Sean Mealin reported that $100 has been sent to the state affiliate treasury.

Student Seminar:  March 19 was selected as the date for the seminar.  Preston Johnson will contact Johnna Simmons to ask her to be a presenter on assistive technology.

Justin Salisbury had Mike Cox introduce himself to the group.

Ideas for philosophy questions will be posted on the NCABS list serve.

The next conference call will be November 8, 2011 at 9:30 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
