I think we would need to do a lot of beforehand advertising. We should
put something in the next News and Views, perhaps after an article
that someone could write about the student seminar. The next one will
be out in Early June probably, so submissions should probably be sent
within the next month, but talking to Gary or Miriam would provide
more accurate info on that. We could call the chapter presidents and
tell them to inform their chapters. If we want a line up of young
performers, then it is essential that we keep up with our seminar
attendees and keep reminding them about our convention scholarship,
and obviously a student track during general sessions will make
attending more appealing. We should try to do a better job of trying
to connect with students going. Maybe some of us could offer or split
our rooms to first time attendees to help them save money. Or maybe
some of us could try to procure rides and invite people to come with,
or offer to ride the bus with people from our areas to people who may
have not tried public transportation before to make the process less
intimidating. There are things that we can do to get more students
there, but it takes a lot of dedication, and a lot of that has to
happen during the summer when most of us are out of touch. But before
we make a decision on an open mic or movie night, Justin should talk
to Gary and perhaps call the hotel and see what kind of arrangements
can be made as far as audio/visual, and if these arrangements will
incur a cost.
