Hello Everyone,
Apologies for the delay.
Some additions to the minutes are:
DJ, Eric, Bobbi, and Kevin are interested in going to Washington seminar.
Sharon gave an update on the Teach bill which is legislation that the NFB is currently working on.
Sharon, could you please give everyone a brief written description of the bill and our efforts? I was not able to catch everything on the call.
Eric gave an excellent philosophy discussion about the blind man who was recently attacked and robbed in public.
Thanks,
Kevin

On Monday, November 11, 2013, The North Carolina Association of Blind
Students held the monthly conference call. Kevin Currin called the meeting
to order shortly after 9:30 p.m. The January SUP seminar was discussed that
will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014, on the UNC campus from 1 p.m.
until 3 p.m. At this point, the seminar does not have a determined location
on campus but Kevin is working on that. A room cannot be reserved until
next semester. It was also noted that this is the same weekend as
Washington seminar as well as potentially the state board meeting. Kevin is
also the chairperson of the scholarship committee and he gave us an update.
The first draft of the application has been drafted. Some points of
interest include, in order to be eligible for the scholarship, you must have
successfully completed one semester of at least 12 credit hours. You also
must attend either a SUP meeting or the state convention to receive the
scholarship. It is the hope of the scholarship committee that the award
will range from $500 to $1500 but this all depends on fundraising.
Bobbi gave us an update on the dinner in the dark that she is planning on
the campus of North Carolina A&T. We had a wonderful discussion on
suggestions that she could potentially implement at this event including the
types of food to serve as well as other things that sighted people do on a
daily basis that they could now do in the dark. Some of these suggestions
included, putting makeup and fingernail polish on and poring water.
Eric gave us an update on the current balance in the NCABS bank account.
Washington seminar is coming up the last weekend in January. It was
discussed who wanted to go from NCABS. The deadline to decide to go is
December 11 at 11 p.m.
