December 2021

1.	The NRTC has a new free online course <https://nrtc.catalog.instructure.com/courses/braille-what-it-is?fbclid=IwAR3qlt4mMUR0-s8PJXhnTh_qlKYPL9ucBPzAHocJn44s79q0ogZwpI0zIHY> Braille: What It Is, and Why It Is Important: This course describes why braille is still important for those with vision loss. It also provides an overview of how the code works, equipment used for reading and writing braille, and barriers faced by those who want to learn and use braille. (1-hour CRC, ACVREP, and NBPCB).

For questions about this and other NRTC courses, visit our <https://www.ntac.blind.msstate.edu/courses/faq> Frequently Asked Questions page.

2.	The first episode of NRTC’s podcast, Employment Insights, is live! On each episode, we invite a guest who is blind or has low vision to talk with us about their experiences, challenges, and insights through their employment journey. To listen to the first episode, visit our <https://www.ntac.blind.msstate.edu/consumers/webinars-podcasts> webinars and podcast page.

3.	Our first webinar, Navigating the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) System: Services are Better When We Work Together, shared insight about how the process of receiving VR services works. The webinar focused on the role of the consumer and rehabilitation counselor in this process. Did you miss it? Visit our  <https://www.ntac.blind.msstate.edu/consumers/webinars-podcasts> webinars and podcast page.

4.	NRTC Training and Outreach Specialist Cantrice Moffitt represented the NRTC at the American Academy of Ophthalmology 2021 Conference Exp on November 13-15 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Attending conferences like AAO provides the opportunity for the NRTC to increase the visibility of our research and resources. One resource we highlighted was our <https://www.blind.msstate.edu/sites/www.blind.msstate.edu/files/2020-09/You-Can-Work-English-Trifold-Brochure.pdf> You Can Work with Blindness or Low Vision brochure. For more information about the conference, visit our <https://www.blind.msstate.edu/news/2021/11/moffitt-represents-nrtc-aao-conference> news item.
5.	We recently updated the products on our Accessibility Resources webpage! We redesigned the document that provides tips and guidance for formatting, designing, and saving an accessible Word document or PDF. We also highlighted external resources for creating accessible products in another document to help you maximize accessibility. Visit our <https://www.blind.msstate.edu/our-products/accessibility-resources> Accessibility Resources page to download these products.
