Job Seekers Find New Opportunities Through Exploration and Technology
<https://nd.at4all.com/announcement/announcementdetails?id=250>
Photo: Project partners collaborate to build 360 degree virtual reality videos featuring assistive devices at BSC’s new Advanced Technology Center.
ND Assistive joined Bismarck State College, Be More Colorful, and Impact Dakota in an effort to use career exploration, job coaching, and assistive devices to help people with disabilities find meaningful jobs.
We’ve successfully onboarded almost a dozen interested people, one of whom has already found work!
The process starts with a quick conversation that focuses on you. From there, our job coach will help you make connections. Whether you need to explore potential occupations, identify job openings, gain confidence, meet leaders, or find the tools you need to do the job, this program can help.
If you or someone you know is looking for a good job, click on the button below and fill out an “Indication of Interest” form to participate in what we’re calling the XR for VR project, and someone will reach out soon.
They DISCOVERED campaign
Sometimes we spend a little too much time talking about ourselves, when deep down we know the heroes of our story are the people who decide to adopt assistive technology.
The graphic below highlights a woman we’re working with from Grand Forks. One of our AT Consultants helped her discover all sorts of possibilities through our Senior Safety, Possibilities Grant, and OT Services programs.
We want to share little stories like this monthly, so if you know someone who’s thriving with AT, please let us know, we’d be thrilled to share their story.
AT of the Month
Foot Mouse
There’s Always a Way
Whether it’s navigating a document, scanning the web, or playing games, there are dozens and dozens of adaptable mouse options.
These creative assistive technology devices allow people to use their heads, fingertips, eyes or even their feet to move the cursor around a computers screen.
The device in the photos is a foot mouse. We have a couple available through our device reuse program for free!

Huey Lewis and the News - Heart of Rock and Roll
Album: Sports, 1983
A few weeks ago a friend of mine asked me to name my favorite group of background singers. He’s a big music nerd and I’m sure he expected me to say the Supremes, or the Pips or some acclaimed group like that. Well, I came back with The NEWS. Yeah, it’s a little weird, I know. But I’ve never listened to a Huey Lewis and the News song I didn’t like. And the background vocals are a huge part of that.
For me, the doo-wops, and woah-oh-oh-ohs added by The News to Huey’s music, takes it to the next level. I mean, they’ve even done some great acapella stuff!
Anyway - Heart of Rock and Roll. The heartbeat at the beginning of the song - which also kicks off the whole album - is infectious. Then, the horns, the harmonica, the drums… the whole song just cooks. You can’t help but tap your feet and sing along.
One of my favorite concert memories is seeing Huey Lewis and the News at the North Dakota State Fair, I think it was 1984. It was hotter than blazes, to the point they brought out hoses, and the crowd was so eager to see Huey that the poor front band was hearing some boos. I did see an interview with him in the late 80s where he talked about how awesome that day was playing in North Dakota in front of 18,000 fans.
Huey doesn’t sing anymore because he has severe hearing loss and vertigo. I’ve seen him emerge publicly quite a bit lately promoting a new Broadway musical featuring the band’s music.
Might mean I need a trip to, “New York, New York …” (that’s the opening line of the featured song by the way).
Going alternative next month.
