Hi Everyone
First thanks Karen for the very informative minutes of Monday night's phone
call.
I do believe it is a good idea to have minutes from the conference call,
which might entice others to phone into the call. Unfortunately, I did not
do that during my term as Secretary. However, I am going to send in my
minutes from the Board meeting conference calls for Mike Hansen to put in
the archives. I am waiting for approval of the minutes from the 2011 and
2013 convention along with the minutes from the 2014 convention which I
have not completed yet.
Thank you Barbara for your suggestions so far, and to Robert for getting
some information to me to help me remember.
I promise to send out the 2014 convention minutes soon.
Nancy

Subject: Re: [Nebraska-senior-blind] October meeting
Thank you, Karen, for the minutes of last night's meeting. I have five
corrections to submit.
The first is that yesterday's date was October 20, not the 21st, as it was
listed once.
The second is that I was listed as Barb in the list of attendees. I prefer
to be called Barbara. Mostly, you did do that. Thank you.
The third is the spelling of Kari Ruse's name. It is Kari Ruse.
The fourth is that the ride sharing company is called Lyft. It's a take-off
on the word lift.
The fifth is that I'm sure you meant transpired rather than conspired,
since we're talking about what happened, not something bad or illegal we
secretly plotted or made plans together to do.
This isn't a correction, but I think that if we check our constitution and
see how many members it takes to have a quorum for doing business, we can
then discuss finding a way to approve minutes so they can be on our website
more often than annually so people can know what we're doing and
potentially join with us in building the Federation and making things
happen.
Sincerely,
Barbara

OCTOBER 20,2014 Meeting Minutes
The National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska Senior Division held their
October meeting on Monday the 21st of October, 2014 via telephone
conferenceing. Robert Newman, President, Barb Loos, Vice President, Karen
Lemmon, Secretary and member Brad Loos were in attendance. Prospective
member Gina Finnell also attended. The meeting came to order at 7:30 P.M.
(CT).
The first order of discussion considered growth of chapters. Robert
reported the Omaha chapter had several new prospective members. Karen
reported difficulty in getting members who paid dues involved in projects.
Barbara suggested that members be given assignments in every project to
help give them ownership within the project. Different projects such as the
bakeless bake sale and the need not attend tea party were discussed.
Discussion turned to reports on the recent NFBN Convention held in Omaha.
Barbara reported on the transportation committees progress. Bill Bivin and
Carrie Roos were both at convention showing their concern for the lack of
accessible transportation in cities and the lack of available public
transportation connecting counties across the State. At convention Carrie
announced the progress being made to make their website assessable to the
blind. Although progress is slow there is movement forward. On the same
subject Barbara explained another option that has appeared to assist blind
travelers. The program is called LYST. This program allows individuals to
use their I-phone to find rides to various destinations. This originated in
California and the availability of it in the various areas of Nebraska was
unknown at the time of this meeting.
There was some discussion as to the cost of the convention for
individuals attending. Defense of the cost was that the meal, the speaker,
awards and other considerations must be paid for and that the more in
attendance the less the expense. The other side of this discussion was that
individuals who live on an extremely limited fixed income cannot afford
participating at the high end expense of the more expensive conference
centers.
Gina asked where to send her dues. Secretary Lemmon said she would call her
with Cheryl's address and email Gina's address to Robert. This led to
discussion about how to inform members who do not have email about what
conspired at each meeting and updates on times for the next meeting. There
was no decision made on this topic. Clarification was made to the new
secretary however that minutes did not have to be sent to Mike Hansen as
there would only be one annual report to the State Affiliate.
Robert turned the discussion to the November meeting agenda. He reported
that the woman from the Alzheimer's group would be on the call next time.
The last item to be discussed was the minutes submitted by Nancy that
needed to be approved before the end of the year. Robert suggested that if
we have time next month with the guest speaker on the telephone meeting,
that we will motion on the two sets of minutes to be approved. If time did
not allow this would be done at the December meeting.
Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at
8:40 P.M. (CT).
Respectfully submitted
Karen Lemmon
Secretary
NFBN-Senior Division
