** NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF NEBRASKA SENIOR DIVISION MEETING
MINUTES

Monday, November 11, 2016

The Senior Division of the NATIONAL Federation of the Blind of Nebraska met
by phone conference Monday, November 11, 2016. President Robert Newman
called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. Those attending introduced
themselves alphabetically. Members present were Robert Newman, Barbara Loos,
Linda Mentink, Cheryl Livingston, Nancy Oltman, Gina Finnell, Geralynn
Konruff, Brad Loos, and Steve Senteney. Guests present were Jim Bab (New
Mexico), Denise Valkema (Florida), Della Johnson, and Warren Bennet.

Geralynn recited the NFB Pledge.

Gina moved, Cheryl seconded, that the minutes of the October meeting be
approved as corrected. The motion carried.

Cheryl amended the October 10 report to reflect a deposit of $22, changing
the ending balance to $666.95. She then read the November report with the
corrected starting balance. Gina moved, Linda seconded, that the report be
approved as amended. The motion carried.

Robert explained to our guests about our desire to involve members in the
activities of the division to help it run more smoothly. He mentioned
sending cards to members, and asked Barbara for a report on her research
into what greeting cards are available in print and Braille. Barbara was
trying to three-way Nancy in, so she wasn't available right then. A phone
tree was mentioned to remind people of the meetings, and Denise suggested
that some might like a text message. Barbara reported that she checked the
Krafters Division website, but didn't find anything. She talked to Joyce
Kane, the division president, and asked if they were selling the cards that
they had at convention. They will have cards up for Valentine's Day, but not
before. Someone wanted to get something up for Christmas, but the cards
didn't get done in time for that to be workable. The going prices are $5
apiece for the larger cards. They're working on getting the card service up
soon; an assortment of themes, and sizes. (They have birthday, get well,
Valentines, Christmas, and potentially anniversary cards.) Barbara will
email her and ask for a list of cards and prices. Joyce said they are going
to have a Christmas telephone get-together on December 17 from 4 to 6
Eastern time. She will send an email about this. Robert mentioned that there
is a company in Omaha that makes Braille cards. More research will be done
before we decide.

New Business: Gina reminded us that Ski for Light is coming up. If anyone
wants to sign up for the bus to come from Omaha and Lincoln, they should
call Warren Bennet at (308) 991-8212. This year they are going to spend the
night in Chadron, and then go on up to Deadwood.

Robert is working on a draft to use for contacting Nebraska counties. They
all have websites.

Jim told us about an iPhone app that will stop unwanted robo calls. It's a
free app called Hiya. Robert mentioned a free light detector app for
iPhones.

We discussed alternative techniques.

Warren Bennet arrived, and gave more details about Ski for Light. They will
leave Saturday, January 28, and return Friday, February 3. They will leave
Omaha around 7:00 AM and Lincoln around 8:00 AM. The costs will be about $50
round-trip for the bus and hotel, and about $333 for the food, hotel, ski
equipment and everything. There are also scholarships of $125 available.

We discussed more alternative techniques.

There were no brags or drags.

Next month's topic will be going on vacation and dealing with hotels and
airports, and how to avoid just being sat somewhere in an unfamiliar place,
and told not to move.

Robert thanked our guests, and the meeting adjourned at 8:30.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Mentink, Secretary
