*#2 Agenda:
-First- Come to order, introductions, say our NFB pledge; Chris will present.

-Second- Presentation by guest speaker, Roger Cicchese, manager of a buyer and seller of used braille technology, and some other blindness equipment; no magnification tech.

Roger writes: The Legacy Technology Project was started by a deaf blind user of the technology and a teacher of the visually impaired. It is mostly a response to the high cost of new access technology. We acquire devices in a variety of ways including contributions, trades and purchases. The devices are cleaned, repaired, repackaged and distributed at reasonable prices to places where they can do the most good. If you have talking or braille technology that works or does not work, that you would like to pass on to us, we will find new homes for it. In the past 8 years we have found new homes for hundreds of devices including Pac mates, Braille -N-Speaks, talking GPS devices, disc drive accessories, victor readers and so much more. We do not list our inventory as it changes so frequently. But if there is an item you are seeking, please contact us by email or phone and we will do what we can to assist you.

This project has been successful beyond our wildest dreams and those who have obtained the technologies we offer have made it all possible. Be part of the solution. P.S. Our regular jobs are operating a recording studio called Voices of Xperience in Southern New Hampshire, The Legacy Technology Project is something we do because it is a way to give back. It's mostly a labor of love.

**Last Month’s Meeting Minutes:

NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF NEBRASKA SENIOR DIVISION MEETING MINUTES

Monday, December 10, 2018

The NFBN Senior Division met by telephone conference on Monday, December 10, 2018. In President Robert Newman's absence, Vice President Barbara Loose facilitated the meeting. She called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM CST. Members present were: Vice President Barbara Loos, Secretary Linda Mentink, Treasurer Cheryl Livingston, Board Member Nancy Oltman, Dorothy Babel, Chris Boone, Gina Finnell, Walt Hively, Michael Jones, Brad Loos, Steve Senteney, and Jerry Whitlow. Guests present were: Warren Bennett, and Della Johnston from Nebraska and Patricia Lipovsky from FL.

Barbara recited the NFB Pledge. Chris will recite it next month.

Barbara mentioned that she and Robert talked about our meeting beforehand, and thought it best to have our guest speaker or philosophical discussion immediately after the recitation of the NFB Pledge. We were all in agreement. We want to get serious about our pledge to work with retirement facilities, churches, senior centers, and anywhere else that seniors might be living or hanging out, and encourage them to join us on our calls and maybe become division members. As a springboard for our philosophical discussion, Barbara read the thought provoker called "To Our Mother," written by Robert Newman. We discussed the importance of involving the person in decisions regarding their welfare, rather than telling them what's going to happen. We also talked about how to advocate for ourselves with medical personnel or others who help us. We should try to get services for the person before they are put in a nursing home. It's helpful to contact them and keep up their confidence.

Steve shared that he contacted the Scottsbluff Star Herald, and they did a story about him skiing as a deaf-blind man. We suggested that he send a copy of that article to Gary Wunder.

Barbara said that Robert wants us to come to our next meeting with ideas of not only which places we want to key in on, but also other ideas for future meetings. We should contact him if we have any ideas for speakers. She mentioned some we had talked about previously.

Linda read the November meeting minutes. Cheryl moved, Brad and Dorothy seconded, that we approve the minutes as read. The motion carried.

Cheryl read the Treasurer's report as follows:

Treasurer’s Report-Senior Division

December 10, 2018

Beginning Balance November 12 $1367.44

Expenses

PAC plan for December $ 15.00

Total Expenses $ 15.00

Deposits None

Ending Balance December 10, 2018 $1352.44

Respectfully submitted,

Cheryl Livingston, Treasurer

We received dues for the following people:

Geri Whitlow

Gina Finnell

Steve Senteney

Michael Jones

This will be reflected in next month’s report.

Chris moved, Linda seconded acceptance of the Treasurer's report. The motion carried.

Nancy said it was too bad we couldn't get together for a Christmas party. Barbara said we should have a no bake bake sale as a future fund-raiser. Della suggested we start to plan the get-together for next year, since it's too late for this one. Maybe we could do it at the national convention, and have Christmas in July there.

FEDERATION-RELATED ANNOUNCEMENTS. Barbara mentioned that she went to the stake holders' meeting at the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind and Visually Impaired in November. She found that there is Braille, but no raised lettering; just some tactile symbols on some doors. There is more and more tactile art there. She did a talk at the Lincoln East Rotary Club about AIRA. There were a couple people there from Christian Record Services. They are creating a story book that is to be individual stories that are uplifting. Each story can stand on its own. Part of the purpose is to have more short literature in Braille for adults who are beginning to read Braille.

She's still dealing with the transportation people. There is still trouble with their website not being accessible. She wrote them a long letter listing the problems.

BRAGS AND DRAGS. Brad recently joined the ranks of those who are using hearing aids. He asked Della about Kelvin, and she said he has his dogs and is doing well.

Linda mentioned that her Church school Christmas program is going to be the 23rd at 6:30 PM, and it will be streamed on bbccolumbus.com<http://bbccolumbus.com>.

Chris mentioned that their son-in-law is going to graduate with his Ph.D. on Friday the 21st. He finished it in two and a half years.

Linda moved, Chris seconded, that we adjourn, which we did at 8:33 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Mentink, Secretary
